Math & Curriculum Planning

books

It’s that time of year again: time to start planning for next homeschool year. As you plan, consider showing your students how you’re using math to help you!

  • Math can help you compare the cost of different curriculum…or of buying the same curriculum from different vendors. Have a coupon? Shipping? You’ll need to use math to calculate the total costs to compare.
  • Math can help you track what you’re spending so you can make sure it doesn’t exceed the money you’ve budgeted in your overall budget for curriculum…or if it does, you can adjust somewhere else.
  • Math can help you figure out how to pace yourself through the books. Dividing the total pages or lessons by the days you plan to school (or what to use that particular material) gives you a rough starting point.

Math is a tool that helps us with the work God’s given us to do–including with homeschool planning! Your students are going to need to use basic math throughout their lives…and now’s a great time to give them an illustration by showing them how you’re using math.
