Mom Moment: Stop and Cherish

butterfly

It’s easy as moms to get ourselves going in so many different directions we sometimes wonder how our head doesn’t spin off from going back and forth. If we’re not careful, we’ll find ourselves constantly on the go, thinking about the next place and missing out on enjoying and training the child right in front of us.

The morning I wrote this, a butterfly emerged from its chrysalis…right before we needed to be out the door to get to camp. I had to force myself to not care what others thought if we were a little late. This was a precious gift from God–a unique opportunity. I needed to let me child enjoy it for just a minute before we raced out the door, and I needed to fully engage and enter his world while he did.

In Titus, Paul exhorts older women to train the young women in specific areas…which implies there are areas we need training in. His list does not include being the best time juggler or accomplishing the most in a day. Instead, loving our husbands and children, being self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to our own husbands are on there. What would our lives look like if those priorities truly were ours each day?

I’d encourage you to join me in really pondering this passage and asking the Holy Spirit to make it real in us.

“They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” Titus 2:3b-5 (ESV)
