About

Hello and welcome! My name is Katherine Loop. I’m a homeschool graduate and live at home with my parents in Northern Virginia where I have the privilege of working with the Home Educators Association of Virginia and overseeing Christian Perspective, an online ministry to homeschoolers that I began after graduating in 2003.

My interest in how math could be viewed from a Christian perspective began during my senior year, when my mom had me read a book called Mathematics: Is God Silent? by James Nickel. I began to realize that math was not spiritually neutral as I had always thought. All of math began to transform, becoming exciting and meaningful. It makes such a difference to see a subject in a biblical perspective!

After graduating, I felt led to write a down-to-earth, non-technical handbook for homeschooling parents (and anyone else interested in teaching math biblically). After nearly three years of research, writing, and rewriting, Beyond Numbers: A Practical Guide for Viewing Math Biblically was released in 2005. This book is now in the hands of parents around the world, and is carried by such companies as CBD.

A few years later, I finished Revealing Arithmetic: Math Concepts from a Biblical Worldview, which offers more details and specific teaching ideas for counting through exponents.

In addition to my writing, the Lord has also allowed me to conduct workshops for homeschooling families at various conventions and support groups. I’ve also had the privilege of traveling abroad and ministering to homeschoolers in both Asian and Europe.

My hobbies include playing the piano (I taught piano for three years), writing, reading, learning (I love to learn!), cooking, and gardening.

I hope this blog proves a blessing to you and encourages you to seek the Lord in everything–even math!

This is to comply with FTC regulations regarding blog reviews.

I, Katherine Loop, do at times receive products to review on my blog, Math from a Christian Perspective, as well as in other print and onlineĀ media, such as www.ChristianPerspective.net. The monetary value of each product variesĀ and may be furnished upon request. When I receive a product to review, I do send the company the review ahead of time to preview and will subsequently make changes if I have made an error; however, the reviews reflect my own observations and thoughts.

I do not participate in any affiliate programs or receive any compensation for reviews made beyond a copy of the product being reviewed.

I review products I feel parents will want more information about–these include both products I want parents to know about, as well as products that are popular in the homeschool community or that someone has asked me about. Selection for review does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation unless one is specifically stated within the review.

Recognizing that different people have different needs and preferences, I try to write my reviews as fairly and graciously as possible, while pointing out things parents may want to be aware of before purchasing. I would ask readers to keep in mind my perspective–I am evaluating resources based on how I see them as working within the framework of teaching math from a biblical perspective. I have not used each product in its entirety, but rather examined various parts of it in order to get a general idea. My goal is to offer an overview of the product that will help parents know if it will work for them.
