Speaker Information

Katherine Loop

Katherine Loop, a homeschool graduate, has been ministering to homeschool families since her graduation in 2003. She has written two books on teaching math from a biblical worldview, Beyond Numbers and Revealing Arithmetic, and has spoken at a variety of groups and conventions on both math and homeschooling topics. Her heart is to point people to "Seek the LORD, and his strength" (Psalm 105:4) in everything.

Katherine lives at home with her parents and brother in Northern Virginia where she works from the home for her state homeschool organization (HEAV) and operates Christian Perspective, an online ministry to homeschool families. View more about her ministry at www.christianperspective.net, and check out her math blog at www.christianperspective.net/blog.

Katherine’s parents, Bob and Christina (Cris) Loop, join her in some of her workshops. Cris also has a workshop on child training available upon request.

Feedback

(Additional feedback and references available upon request.)

“I realized I had a neutral view of math. I suppose I never really considered it could be taught from a biblical perspective…I love that all the glory is given to God.”
– Shannon Kleckner, homeschool mom

“This speech was extremely encouraging for me! Just what I needed to hear at this point in my life. It especially spoke to me since the words came from a homeschool graduate herself, and not a homeschool mom!”
Kim Wood, homeschool mom

Workshop Descriptions

Math from a Biblical Worldview?
We see God’s hand in science and history, but what about math? Isn’t math just a bunch of neutral facts? While most of us have come to look upon math as “neutral,” it’s not! Worldviews do matter in math—and there’s much more to looking at math from a biblical worldview than adding a scripture at the bottom of the page or using a Bible word problem. Come discover biblical principles that make math come alive and give math meaning, helping children really understand what they’re learning. Find out how “neutral” presentations are really not neutral. Leave equipped to begin looking at and teaching math from a new perspective!

Revealing Arithmetic
How can counting, addition, multiplication, fractions, exponents, and other concepts in arithmetic be taught in such a way that children learn to see and use them as a God-given tool—and worship the Lord in math? In this workshop, Katherine will explore several arithmetic concepts, offering ideas and inspiration to help you transform your math class.

Homeschooling: God Is Sufficient
Unsure of your ability to homeschool your children? Feel like giving up on a rebellious child? Carrying concerns about some aspect of homeschooling? Join Katherine, a homeschool graduate, as she reflects back on Gods sufficiency during her homeschooling years. Specific examples of how God taught her through her mothers weaknesses will remind you that God can teach your children. Her reflections on periods of extreme trial will remind you that God knows what He is doing with your children, even when you don't understand. Katherine's candid honesty in describing her periods of rebellion will encourage you to remain true to Gods calling no matter what. Interwoven with these and other personal examples, Katherine shares the scripture verses and lessons that God gave her family during her homeschooling years. Be encouraged that God is sufficient for whatever you might be facing.

Getting Real: Child Training That Counts (Cris Loop)
You want your children to have good character. You want to raise them appropriately. But how? Join Cris Loop as she shares the struggles she had trying to figure out character issues—-and the freedom she experienced when she finally caught sight of the truth. You’ll be challenged to get real-—and to the heart of child training.

Why to Homeschool Through High School
Thinking about putting your children in public/Christian school for high school? Come listen as a father and daughter (who is now a homeschool graduate) share how tempted they were to give up on homeschooling at times, and how grateful they are now that they kept going through high school. This workshop squarely addresses the reasons why many people give up on homeschooling through high school, offering both personal examples and scriptural encouragement to keep going.

Socialization: Understanding the Issue and Sorting Out the Options
Could the socialization activities in which you're participating actually be harming your child? Cris Loop, a homeschool mother, and Katherine Loop, a homeschool graduate, address the often misunderstood issue of socialization from both a parent's and a child's perspective. Get your socialization questions answered and discover ways to give your child the skills they need to socialize without putting them in peer groups all the time. This workshop answers questions such as:

- Do parents need to worry about getting their children around other children?

- Does homeschooling prepare children to socialize in the real-world?

- How should Christians go about sorting through the myriad of activities available?

- And many others!

Delighting in This Season: Encouragement for Young Ladies
Here at last is a session geared specifically for young ladies! Join Katherine, a homeschool graduate, as she addresses common struggles young ladies face both as they approach graduation and after they graduate, and offers a vision for truly delighting in this season of life. If you’re a young lady or a parent of a young lady, you won’t want to miss this encouraging session!
