Katherine Loop, a home school graduate, has spoken to homeschoolers at various support group meetings and state-wide homeschool conventions. She has also worked with homeschooling families in both Europe and Asia. Her desire is to encourage homeschool moms everywhere to let God be in charge of their homeschooling efforts and to look to Him in all they do. Her workshops topics include: Homeschooling: God Is Sufficient; Why to Homeschool Through High School; Everyday Opportunities; and The Need for Socialization: The Myths and Facts. Her vantage point as a homeschool graduate enables her to offer a fresh and encouraging perspective on homeschooling. Katherine also offers workshops on teaching math biblically to help parents understand how math fits into a biblical worldview.

Katherine recently completed and published her first book Beyond Numbers:  A Practical Guide to Teaching Math Biblically and is working on a sequel. She has also authored several holiday devotionals for homeschooling families, including Jesus—the Promised One and The God We Praise. She currently operates Christian Perspective, a Virginia based family ministry that provides encouragement and support to homeschooling families worldwide, and serves as the web content manager for the Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV).

The workshops he offers in conjunction with his daughter Katherine share the Scriptures and biblical principles that helped him work through his concerns, as well as common-sense and real-life examples from his family and work. Bob is a business manager and professional trainer in the corporate setting.

Workshop Descriptions

Teaching Math Biblically: The Biblical Heart in Math Did you realize that your math book might be harming your child's heart? Although math is really a fascinating testimony to Gods faithfulness and character, most homeschoolers are taught to view math as a neutral set of facts and numbers. Most parents are unaware of both the worldly thinking in typical math presentations and of Gods presence in math. Discover the biblical truth about math--a truth that makes math come alive and gives math meaning. Walk through how to teach math biblically, and learn principles for selecting a good math curriculum. Your math class will never be the same again!

Homeschooling: God Is Sufficient Unsure of your ability to homeschool your children? Feel like giving up on a rebellious child? Carrying concerns about some aspect of homeschooling? Join Katherine, a 21-year-old homeschool graduate, as she reflects back on Gods sufficiency during her homeschooling years. Specific examples of how God taught her through her mothers weaknesses will remind you that God can teach your children. Her reflections on periods of extreme trial will remind you that God knows what He is doing with your children, even when you don't understand. Katherine's candid honesty in describing her periods of rebellion will encourage you to remain true to Gods calling no matter what. Interwoven with these and other personal examples, Katherine shares the Scripture verses and lessons that God gave her family during her homeschooling years. Be encouraged that God is sufficient for whatever you might be facing.

Unveiling Math Math has long been shrouded in facts and mathematical nomenclature. But math does not have to be mysterious. Nor do we as Christians have to teach math the same way the world does. Come take a look at how various math concepts—from basic counting to algebra and geometry—are really useful, exciting tools that point us to our great Creator. You will discover that when approached in light of biblical principles, math takes on new meaning and becomes a refreshing reminder to trust God. Whether you like math or not, you will be inspired to begin “unveiling” math with your children.

Everyday Opportunities Everyday is filled with opportunities, although they might not always look like you think. In this workshop, Katherine Loop, a homeschool graduate, shares from her personal recollections how things like holidays, birthdays, family squabbles, sickness, and just plain ordinary life are really opportunities in disguise. You will be encouraged to view everything as a precious opportunity from your Heavenly Father.

Why to Homeschool Through High School Thinking about putting your children in public/Christian school for high school? Come listen as a father and daughter (who is now a homeschool graduate) share how tempted they were to give up on homeschooling at times, and how grateful they are now that they kept going through high school. This workshop squarely addresses the reasons why many people give up on homeschooling through high school, offering both personal examples and scriptural encouragement to keep going.

Socialization: Understanding the Issue and Sorting Out the Options Could the socialization activities in which you're participating actually be harming your child? Cris Loop, a homeschool mother, and Katherine Loop, a homeschool graduate, address the often misunderstood issue of socialization from both a parent's and a child's perspective. Get your socialization questions answered and discover ways to give your child the skills they need to socialize without putting them in peer groups all the time. This workshop answers questions such as:

- Do parents need to worry about getting their children around other children?

- Does homeschooling prepare children to socialize in the real-world?

- How should Christians go about sorting through the myriad of activities available?

- And many others!

The Need for Socialization--The Myths and Facts Do I need to worry about getting my children around other children? Does homeschooling prepare children to socialize in the real-world? If so, how? This workshop squarely addresses the often misunderstood issue of socialization from both a parent's and a child's perspective. Bob Loop, a homeschool father, and Katherine Loop, a homeschool graduate, will share some of the myths about socialization they struggled with over the years and the things the Lord has taught them. Whether you are just starting out or a veteran homeschooler, you will be encouraged that God’s plan for socialization makes sense.
